At the Heart of the City by Murielle At the Heart of the City by Murielle
Still on the Discworld kick. It will come and go, like the HP one I am sure.

As for the title, I will always think of these two as Ankh-Morpork's...heart and...uh...soul? No, that is not the right words at all. They are the bits that make things work, and the bits that really care. Not to get all mushy about it, but there it is. They both love the city, in some form or another. I will swear it.

As for the art...I like my Vetinari. I am still a little iffy on my Vimes, but like where he is going. I will admit though, I think I need to ding that armor up to hell next time. Maybe Sybil made him get nice(-ish) ones. And yes, in my mind Havelock does not allow smoking in the Oblong office but chewing...well, allowances can be made.

Sucky Anhk-Morpork out the window in the background there. Still have to work on those.

Havelock Vetinari, Sam Vimes, Ankh-Morpork and Discworld all belong to Terry Pratchett.

I like the window a lot, because Vetinari is always looking out of it and asking Vimes what he sees.

Not really no.   Those work pretty well, although if Vimes is the liver... insert inappropriate alcohol joke here.

Only cribble here is that I always figured Vetinari to be taller, but its still an amazing piece.

Honestly, it is something that I go back and forth about myself.  In this particular one, Vimes won out.  Thicker soled shoes that day, I dunno. XD  Thanks!

Vimes seems to be of quite average height, I imagine him taller and larger though ...Sometimes he ends up running with Vetinari or even Sybil over his shoulder, and in my imagination this works better with a big guy.

Pratchett has spoken of Vimes being physically like the actor Pete Postlethwaite, who is 5'9" which isn't usually considered overly tall.  Also, it is kinda funny if he isn't that big a guy running around being amazing.  But really in the end, it is a book and we are all entitled to our own visual ideas of the characters.

Love it - it really is so similar to what I picture in my head...

Oh, and as someone who's been on a discworld kick for the last fifteen years, I can honestly say that it never goes away...

haha, sure thing :) I really like it, because it's almost exactly how I pictured Vimes when reading. I know he should be more skinny (or at least everyone else draws him that way), but I like how he looks both older and dry, if you know what I mean xD So he's got muscles, but I can also see his age for example on his neck :)

And Vimes and Vetinari are the best served together, so here we are

I kinda run against the "skinny Vimes" thing because of all the stuff about Sybil trying to get him to eat healthy. I am sure that before he settled down, he was a stickman alcohol-burning marathoner, but he eats regular meals now and I like him with a bit more meat on his limbs and a little pudge on his belly. XD

They are a perfect compliment. I love how Vetinari knows just how hard to press just the right buttons with Vimes. If I didn't think Sam and Sybil were the perfect couple... ;D

That actually make sense :D I for one see him both with muscles but skinny in the way you can see in hi neck for example on your picture.

Oh no, I never slashed those two xD But they are perfect. One of my favourite moments always is (I don't remember which book from tho) when Vimes left the office, and Vetinari, after few seconds raised his head when he realised that Vimes didn't punch the wall in front of the doors. That meant he pushed him too far. And then Vimes went and did something stupid xD

OH GOD YES, that is my one of my favorite scenes! That one, and at the end of Guards! Guards!, when they are talking and Vetinari just slips in a "You saved my life." and then just keeps on talking. I don't know why, but I ADORE THAT.

I don't seriously slash them, more...bromance them? I don't see it as a sexual or even romantic kind of thing really, but more like...they connect with each other in a way they don't with others? Like in that scene you mentioned. I don't see Vetinari actually worrying about many other people aside from Vimes (which I think he secretly does from time to time). For instance, I honestly think that either of them would be completely DEVASTATED if the other actually died (unless of course it is Vimes 'axing' Vetinari. ;D ). That being said, if I was asked to draw them in a slashy situation, I probably wouldn't say no.

And remember the scene from the "Night Watch", probably my favourite guards book or even my favourite one from all the discworld (apart from "Mort', who will always be special for me), at the very end, when Vimes stands on the grave of the captain and Vetinari has the flower in his jacket too, and realises that it was Vimes, in the past? I don't remember details, but I loved the feeling of it, like they really know each other better than anyone else, also because they irritate each other (well, Vetinari irritates Vimes at least).

I absolutely agree on the bromance thing. I actually don't like when ppl slash guys who in canon are obviously bromancing each other. Like Dean and Castiel from SPN or some other. I mean, really, the friendship is one of the best things in the world and it can stand alone without the love involved! So I really like that you called their relationship a bromance!

And Vetinari worrying about Vimes - YES. We say a dfinitely yes to that :iconloveloveplz:

I think Vetinari thought highly of Keel, and realizing that Vimes WAS the Keel that he had admired...cemented things between them from Vetinari's point of view. Vetinari doesn't exactly have much in the way of friends, (I imagine, being kinda superior to everybody) and the fact that he respects Vimes (despite loving to put him through some hell...remember, EVIL!) is one of the closest things to friendship he has.

I am ok with some slash from time to time (depending on series/pairing/my hormones), but I completely understand what you mean. It is love, but not an amorous love. More of an agape or even philia than a hot-blooded eros. I think lots of fans have trouble with those distinctions.

Vetinari rockin it with his monocle!

never seen him portrayed with onr, but it looks strangely badass on him, I like you're rendition of Vimes too, and you did the Goosberry exactly as I imagined it! If I had to critisize anything, I'd say Vimes's hair/top of head looks a bit too flat, but thats just nit-picking. A nice pic, all in all.
